Siasa completes block phase works for the second AOR vessel for the Royal Australian Navy
The launch took place on 30 August at the Navantia facilities in the Ferrol Estuary
On 30 August, at the Navantia facilities in the Ferrol Estuary (Galicia), the launch of the second AOR vessel for the Royal Australian Navy took place. Siasa has played a major role in these works.
The launch, at high tide, was attended by senior members of the Royal Australian Navy, the country owning the vessel, and the Spanish Navy, local and regional political representatives, companies that worked on the project and Navantia managers.
Christened as “Stalwart”, this is the second AOR (Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment) vessel that Navantia has built for the Royal Australian Navy at the Ferrol Estuary (Galicia).
Specifically, and over the course of the eight-month project, Siasa has carried out surface preparation and anti-corrosive coating application works in the block phase, which has involved treating over half a million square feet (+50,000 m2) in the cabins at the Navantia Ferrol installations. The project began in December 2018.
Siasa has also performed, and will continue now the vessel is afloat, the surface treatment and application of corrosion protection coating for the vessel’s prow areas. The final delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2020.
Siasa has again met the tight deadlines imposed for the vessel construction phase, and the demanding requirements in terms of quality, inspection and security involved in projects of this kind.
