Waterjetting
Surface preparation through high and ultra-high-pressure water jets.
Waterjetting, or high or ultra-high-pressure water jetting, is a cleaning technique in which a high-speed stream of water is propelled onto the surface to be cleaned or prepared, aiming to remove any type of contaminant, both visible and invisible.
A powerful pump is used to force the water out at high pressure through a nozzle with small rotating holes, achieving optimal surface stripping. According to the standards defined by SSPC/NACE and ISO, it is considered high-pressure water jetting when the water pressure ranges from more than 700 bar up to 2,100 bar, and ultra-high-pressure when it exceeds 2,100 bar.

Waterjetting Application Sectors
At ALTTION, we specialize in applying waterjetting in:
- Naval Sector: Ideal for large surfaces requiring substrate decontamination and surface cleaning or preparation while minimizing the impact on surrounding equipment and environmental contamination.
- Chemical and Petrochemical Industry, Highly useful for selectively removing worn coatings, preparations in ATEX zones, and interior tank surfaces.
Advantages of Waterjetting
Compared to traditional surface cleaning or preparation systems, the main advantages of waterjetting include:
- Eco-Friendly and Efficient: It does not alter the composition of the material physically or chemically, making it a more environmentally friendly and effective technique.
- Eliminates Soluble Salts: Waterjetting removes soluble salts from the surface, which other systems often require additional washing to achieve.
- Dust-Free Operation: Since it doesn’t use abrasive materials, it avoids airborne pollution and dust clouds, providing a cleaner working environment.
- Safety: Waterjetting does not produce sparks, making it safe for use in potentially explosive environments.
- Reduces Waste: Drastically reduces the percentage of waste that needs recycling due to its efficient stripping process.
