Depisa protects the BP Oil refinery in Castellón from fire

The difficulty of access, and the type of product to apply, mean this job is only for experts

A new, highly complex project, only suitable for specialists specifically trained in this type of treatment. Depisa has completed the application of coatings with Chartek to protect the BP Oil refinery in Castellón from fire.

Specifically, the coating works were performed on the metal structure supporting four heat exchangers at the Castellón-based plant’s installations.

The difficulty of access, and the type of product to apply, mean this job is only for professionals specifically trained in this type of application. In this instance, the experts are certified by the company International Paints – the Chartek manufacturer -, a high-performance epoxy intumescent coating with 100% solids by volume, which provides outstanding durability and dual protection against corrosion and hydrocarbon fires.

The Castellón BP Oil refinery, which began its operations in 1967, covers a 200-hectare surface area and has almost 500 employees, plus over 660 contractors and 2,000 indirect workplaces. It’s the only BP (British Petroleum) group refinery in Spain and supplies 85% of fuel demand in the Valencian and Balearic Island Communities.
